A fire erupted at the Hteinbin garbage dump in Hlinethaya Township, Yangon Region, this afternoon, according to the Fire Services Department (FSD).

The FSD said it received a report of the fire around 2 p.m. and dispatched firefighters to the scene.

The fire was brought under control in about an hour, with no casualties or injuries reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Hteinbin dump is the largest landfill in Yangon, receiving around 1,350 tonnes of waste daily from the city. It has been the site of several fires in the past, including a major one in 2008 that lasted for a week and killed four people due to smoke inhalation.
