19 EV Charging Stations will be built in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and along Yangon-Mandalay Highway with the target to complete by the end of March, according to the sources.

The pilot project is be implemented to construct four charging stations in Nay Pyi Taw, five charging stations at five locations on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway and five charging stations each in Yangon and Mandalay.

The first five charging stations will be at Zero Mile No 3 Highway junction, 115th Mile Pyu Rest Stop, 201/2nd milepost Nay Pyi Taw C-junction, 284/4th milepost Theegon bus terminal and 352/3rd milepost Sagainn junction on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway.

In Yangon Region, the charging stations are being built at Yangon Railway Station, Dagon-Ayar Highway Bus Terminal, near Thakhin Mya Park in lower Kyinmyindaing road in Ahlon Township and Thiri Mingalar Market in Hlaing Township.

The another five EV charging stations will be at in front of Thukha Taw Win Housing, Myoma Market, Thabyagon Market, Sibin Guest House and Bawga Thiri Highway Bus Terminal in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area.

Likewise, Mandalay Region is now building the five EV charging stations at Circular Road, Thaikpan Road, Moat Road and Highway Bus Terminals.

Chairman of the Electric Vehicles Operating and Basic Infrastructures Implementation Work Committee Deputy Minister for Construction Win Pe together with officials inspected location of Yangon International Airport charging station to be constructed by Yangon Aerodrome Co., Ltd for running and operating electric vehicles on March 12th.

During the inspection, the Deputy Minister called for submitting the set design and differences to the steering committee for approval and to prepare the basic infrastructures to be able to charge electricity when electric vehicles start to be used and looked into the place of Aung Mingalar bus terminal where the charging station are being constructed by Myanmar Brilliance Auto Co., Ltd and instructed the needs.

“Myanmar aims to run EVs across the nation. We already carried out feasibility survey aiming to build the charging stations at Myanmar’s life-blood routes such as Yangon-Mandalay Union Highway, Yangon-Pyi road, Yangon-Pathein road, Payargyi-Thahton-Mawlamyaing road, Meikhtila-Kyaukpadaung-Nyaung-U road, Meikhtila-Taunggyi road and Pyi Oo Lwin-Mandalay-Lashio road,” said Win Pe.

Two companies imported 40 EVs as first batch and the EVs will be used as private vehicles and taxis on trial. For public transportation, 10 taxis will be operated by Chin Dwin Shan Construction Co., Ltd based at Yangon International Airport, and 10 taxis by NPK Motors Co., Ltd based at Thapyaygone Market in Nay Pyi Taw.

Union Minister of Industry Dr Charlie Than also said that a company proposed to substitute the EVs instead of YBS operating in Yangon Region.
