Delegation led by KNU/KNLA – PC chairman arrives in NPT for peace talks at the invitation of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing

A peace delegation led by Saw Htaw Lay, chairman of the Karen National Liberation Army (Peace Council) (KNU/KNLA – PC), arrived in Nay Pyi Taw on May 25 at the invitation of the Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) and Prime Minister Sr. Gen. Min Aung Hlaing to meet with the ethnic armed groups.

A KNU/KNLA – PC peace delegation led by Chairman Saw Htaw Lay arrived at Horizon Lake View Resort in Nay Pyi Taw on the afternoon of May 25 and they were greeted by officials and members of the National Unity and Peace Coordination Committee and ethnic nationalities from the Department of Culture holding signs with the words “Achieving lasting peace among the ethnic nationalities is the real aspiration of the people as a whole.”, “Peace is the true aspiration of all citizens.”, “Let us meet for peace in the Union.” and "Peace, stability and tranquility of the ethnic nationalities" and waving small national flags.

They are the third EAOs after the NCA-affiliated Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS/SSA) and the New Mon State Party (NMSP) arrived in Nay Pyi Taw to attend the peace talks.

Sr. Gen. Min Aung Hlaing, SAC’s Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services and RCSS Chairman Gen. Yawd Serk met in Nay Pyi Taw on May 20. The State Peace Negotiation Team led by Lt-Gen Yar Pyae and the delegation led by RCSS Chairman Gen. Yawd Serk held talks from May 21 to 22 and signed agreement resulted from three-day peace talks.

In addition, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and NMSP Vice-Chairman Nai Aung Min met in Nay Pyi Taw on May 23. The State Peace Negotiation Team led by Lt-Gen Yar Pyae and the delegation led by NMSP Vice-Chairman Nai Aung Min held talks from May 23 to 25 and signed agreement resulted from three-day peace talks.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, and a delegation led by KNU/KNLA-PC Chairman Saw Htaw Lay will begin peace talks on May 26.
