Due to strong waves and winds, security personnel fired two warning shots to signal the boat to return to shore. They are currently heading towards Sittwe with a landing craft, according to a statement from the State Administration Council’s information team.

Regarding a video file circulating online where a border guard claims they were shot at with firearms while transferring to the landing craft from a boat during their retreat from Maungdaw, the State Administration Council’s information team responded to VOA’s inquiries, reiterating the aforementioned information.

While transferring security personnel and their families to the landing craft with the appropriate number of boats, the weather became severe, making it unsuitable to leave the shore. Despite this, the boat attempted to approach the landing craft without permission, according to the SAC’s information team.

However, due to the strong waves and winds, the boat was unable to reach the landing craft and was directed to return to shore for safety. Due to the noise from the waves and boat, the warning was not heard, so two shots were fired from the landing craft to signal the return, as stated by the information team.

The State Administration Council’s information team has reported that all security personnel and their families are currently safely onboard the landing craft and are en route to Sittwe.
