NAYPYIDAW-  State Counselor Daw Aung San Su Kyi has called the testimonies by former Yangon Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein on her corruption case as “all absurd,” according to the defendant's lawyer U Khin Maung Zaw. Daw Aung San Su Kyi made these remarks when meeting with her lawyers in a special court hearing in Naypyidaw on October 4th.

“Daw Aung San Su Kyi only made one remark in English regarding the testimonies against her on Friday, October 1st. She commented that they were ‘all absurd,’” says her lawyer U Khin Maung Zaw.

On October 1st, U Phyo Min Thein, who served as Yangon Region Chief Minister for the government of the National League for Democracy from 2015 to 2020, appeared in court to testify as civilian witness for the ruling military in regards to Daw Aung San Su Kyi's corruption charges.

Defendant’s lawyer states that U Phyo Min Thein testified on October 1st as he did in the video clip released by the State Administrative Council. However, he also mentioned an additional detail regarding a ‘golden Buddha statue from Venerable Maing Phone Sayadaw to Daw Aung San Su Kyi.’

U Phyo Min Thein, as the main civilian witness for the ruling military, has been summoned again to court on October 8th to answer questions in regards to the alleged bribes that he has given to Daw Aung San Su Kyi in the form of $600,000 and 7 viss gold.
