The coaches that are currently running on Yangon circular road will be substituted with Japan-made DEMU coaches capable of running with diesel and electricity, according to Myanma Railways.

The substitution program will start only after Yangon circular railroad project has been finished.

The government already bought DEMU locomotives and 66 coaches from Japan. But the DEMU locomotives and 66 coaches haven’t arrived in Myanmar yet.

US$270 million of Japanese loan has been spent on the purchase of DEMU locomotives and 66 coaches. The coaches can be run by diesel or electricity. Railroad signals have been also bought.
