State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi said that the spread of COVID-19 hasn’t increased and seemed to be steady and despite that, there is a need to work harder to reduce the numbers, during her televised speech to the people on November 9.

“Within one or two week, it seemed that COVID-19 infection became steady. But, we need to work harder to go down the infection rate. We need cooperation from the public to reduce the infection rate. In the election period, we set restrictions due to COVID-19. I apologized to the public because I had to pose certain restrictions during election period. I understand that people wanted to expose their desire before the election. After the election, they want to discuss the election results with friends. This is very natural. But, because of COVID-19, we had requested public to avoid gathering. I am so delighted to know that people also accept and listen my request. There were some incidents that gathering occurred. They were unavoidable during election period and this came as no big surprise,” said Aung San Suu Kyi.

She continued to say that she apologized to the people unable to vote. She added that there will be a fourth time that the government will provide assistance to basic people and this will be within weeks. Besides, there are plans to overcome the economic challenges after COVID-19 and hope to share economic plans to the public and aimed to work successfully.

She added that countries in the world now face COVID-19 repeated waves of pandemic. It may be said that the pandemic is unable to control at global level. The election result will be declared by those concerned and she felt bad about saying COVID-19 while the people wanted to talk about the election.
