The construction of a new bridge in parallel with Thanlyin Bridge is set to be completed by 2021 while Thilawa  Special Economic Zone may continue to attract investors in years to come, said Win Aung, chairman of Myanmar Thilawa SEZ Holdings Public Co Ltd (MTSH).

With overseas aid from Japan, Thilawa Multipurpose International Terminal Co Ltd (TMIT) finished construction of a jetty on December 14 and started work.

To facilitate the operation of factories in Thilawa SEZ, MTSH is conducting a feasibility study to create a multimodal logistic hub as the zone still needs international jetties and logistic structures.

Moreover, Super Hotel, a hotel syndicate from Japan, was opened on March 16 this year in the housing and business area of Thilawa Property Development Limited (TPD), a branch company of MTSH.

TPD will start building a shopping center in Thilawa region at the end of this year by drawing a design. The project is set to finish in earlier 2021, Win Aung said.

Market situation of companies operating in Thilawa SEZ accounts for 60 percent of industries with focus on domestic market. Industries focusing on export market represent 40 percent and they are now on the increase, according to MTSH.

There are 36 export-oriented companies, 60 domestic market-oriented companies  and one other company in Thilawa SEZ.
