A fighting broke out in Sanphu village, Hopon Township, southern Shan State, on January 20, leaving 27 houses burned and several security personnel injured.

The State Administration Council (SAC) claimed to have seized a large cache of weapons and ammunition from those wearing uniforms of the Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO), who allegedly torched their own vehicles and caused the fire.

The clashes continued until the next day, with gunshots echoing in the Mene mountain region, where Sanphu village is located.

The area is a popular destination for tourists who want to climb Mt. Mene, a scenic peak that offers panoramic views.

However, the fighting has cut off the access to the mountain, trapping nearly 50 travellers who were already on their way.
