China handed over 132 Myanmar detained in Chinese prisons

Myanmar citizens detained at various prisons in China were handed over at Nandaw checkpoint in Muse, northern Shan State on June 29. Among the 132 Myanmar citizens, two Myanmar women who were trafficked to China also returned to Myanmar.

With the cooperation of the Myanmar and China government, Myanmar citizens detained in China for various reasons were handed over to Myanmar from April 3 to June 29. A total of 80 Myanmar women, who were victims of human trafficking, also came back to Myanmar.

“We have accepted 80 women trafficked to China. Majority of them are lured with false promises such as they will get a good job with high income in China. But, they were sold as soon as they arrived in China. Now, we have rescued 4 trafficking case and working prevention of human trafficking,” said Police inspector Aung Myo Htut.

About 60 women and 72 men were transferred back to Myanmar totaling 132. Most of them were arrested as their border pass issued by Myanmar government expired during COVID-19. They were welcomed systematically and sent to Pyinsa Wiggi communion hall with volunteers’ vehicles. They will be staying one day in Muse and sent to their homes on Jun 30 according to Muse COVID-19 committee.
