The bank account data of both the union minister and deputy minister for electricity and energy have been sent to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said Central Bank Vice Governor Soe Thein.

The information came after media raised questions about the reports on their alleged corruption during a session of the Upper House of Parliament on August 2.

Regarding the case being investigated by ACC, the vice governor said the Central Bank received a letter to check if there are any bank accounts for Myanmar kyats or foreign currency opened by the union minister, the deputy minister and their wives.

"If organizations such as anti-money laundering, anti-corruption and anti-human trafficking ask for data about banks accounts, we have to ask the banks for them and give them back to those organizations. We don't know other things. We give data if they are demanded.

ACC asked the Central Bank to give data about banks accounts of the minister and deputy minister in July 2019. In the letter sent by ACC, the bank was to give information about any kyat and foreign bank accounts of Union Minister Win Khaing and wife Hla Hla Mu and Deputy Minister Dr Tun Naing and wife Thin Thin Maw.

Currently, Union Minister for Electricity and Energy Win Khaing is on medical leave, some media reported. According to press releases issued by the Ministry of Information, Deputy Minister Dr Tun Naing is stilling doing his job.

Under the current government led by the National League for Democracy, Pe Zin Tun who was ffirst appointed as Union Minister for Electricity and Energy resigned from his post.

Win Khaing was first appointed as Union Minister for Construction. At that time, he was popular for his remark that he would put engineers in prison if the roads and bridges they built did not last five years.
