The army will continue to carry out military operations to guarantee security in Rakhine State, said Maj-Gen Soe Naing, Chairman of Tatmadaw True News Information Team during a press conference held at Defence Services Museum in Nay Pyi Taw on May 3.

A reporter from People’s media raised a question about how the army has planned to treat on Arakan Army (AA) which is currently fighting with the army as some assumed the army will increase military operation on the AA although they announced the extension of ceasefire period.

“We have six policies set on the ethnic armed groups and we already announced it officially. We are following the footsteps of nationwide ceasefire agreement (NCA), which is drawn by the government, army, parliament and EAOs. If the AA tried to follow the NCA and to make contact with NRPC, it is ok for us. As we said at the press conferences, we will continue to try to guarantee security in Rakhine State,” replied Maj-Gen Soe Naing.

Moreover the AA is based on Laiza and Rakhine conflict is occurred after the AA is founded. So the army will continue to have guarantee on security in the state, he said.

Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun, Secretary of the Tatmadaw True News Information Team said the mines used by the AA are high-explosive and destructive. The army found the ethnics armed groups which are involved in the EAO are not used that kind of mines.

He continued the AA was arrived in Rakhine State in 2015 and more than 30,000 people are fled away from their homes due to the terrorist acts of AA.
