A junior officer and some soldiers were killed and some ammunition was lost in clashes with the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) in Mongko area in northern Shan State, according to the announcement from the information team of the State Administration Council (SAC).

The MNDAA insurgents opened fire at 5,300 and 5,500 meters southeast of Mongko on August 12 at around 12 noon and around 4 pm while security forces were patrolling the area. A junior officer and some soldiers were killed and some ammunition was lost in the incident, the statement said.

A video of weapons being seized from the soldiers during the battle of Mongko has been circulating on social media as well as some online media outlets, with reports saying that the battalion commander and soldiers were killed in the fighting.

In recent days, there has been a daily propaganda of false reports that many security forces have been killed. The purpose of the above-mentioned misinformation was to inspire the PDFs to become more involved in vandalism and killings, it said.
