The Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation, U Min Naung, announced plans to establish new agricultural and livestock universities in both Upper and Lower Myanmar.

This statement was made during the first coordination meeting on the expansion of agricultural and livestock universities, held on January 20 at the Centenary Hall of the Yezin Agricultural University in Nay Pyi Taw.

The Union Minister highlighted that while agricultural and veterinary universities in Nay Pyi Taw Yezin annually produce skilled professionals, there are still unmet needs. To address these gaps, the government is actively working to establish new universities in different regions of the country. The meeting also discussed follow-up actions based on the decisions made during a coordination meeting on January 17.

Participants provided sector-specific recommendations, which were further discussed and supplemented by the Union Minister and Deputy Ministers.

Following the meeting, the Union Minister, Deputy Ministers, and relevant officials visited an ongoing project in Zeyathiri Township for industrial-scale agricultural development. They also met with village administrators and agricultural sector officials from the Nay Pyi Taw Council Territory.

Discussions focused on preparations for timely summer rice cultivation, including soil enrichment with natural fertilizers, seed stockpiling, and planning for fertilizer needs in coordination with suppliers.
