Insurance companies are unable to accept insurance for electric vehicles till now according to automobile dealers.

“The companies said that they don’t know when to accept insurance for EV. At present, what they said was only when the policies on EV comes, they will accept,” said a car dealer.

There are differences between insurance for EVs and insurance for vehicles using fuel.  Therefore, insurance can be made when the EV policy comes out said a man close to an insurance company.

“It depends on the quality of the vehicle.  Depending on the current situation, insurance will have to cover in a whole if something wrong with electric vehicle. Of the fuel vehicles, insurance can be given to each car part. Electric vehicle is totally different. If something wrong with the EV, the entire vehicle was also affected,” he added.

Fire broke out while electronic vehicle was charging in North Dagon Township at 11:00 pm on October 5. While plugging in the EV in front of the house, fire broke out, according to a firefighter who was at the scene.

The electric vehicle caught fire because the owner of the vehicle had changed the battery charging system and the wiring system, announced Khaing Khaing Sangda Group Limited.

The company officials visited the burned down EV on the morning of October 6 and inspected it. The owner of the electric vehicle that caught fire installed a 660 cc engine and gearbox on his own accord. It was found that the battery charging system and the wire system were installed and used differently, it said.
