Sagaing- An explosion occurred at the Immigration and Population Department office in Parami Ward, Sagaing City, at around 11:00 am. on June 5, leaving 17 people injured, including government employees, according to local sources.
A source close to the office said that four staff members and 13 civilians were wounded in the blast. The injuries sustained by the four employees were reported to be serious, with one victim requiring emergency surgery.
“The explosion happened inside the office compound. Four employees and 13 civilians were injured, making a total of 17 casualties. The injuries to the staff members were severe, and one person underwent immediate surgery,” the source said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the explosion may have been caused by a drone-dropped bomb. The immigration office is located in an area where public access and movement have been restricted.
A local resident noted that security measures had been tightened around the office for some time due to repeated attacks.
“The immigration office has been targeted by bomb attacks on several occasions. As a result, barriers have long been placed on roads leading to the office, and only nearby residents and people with official business are generally allowed to enter the area,” the resident said.
The Immigration and Population Department office in Parami Ward has reportedly experienced at least three bombing incidents since 2021. In 2024, a shooting attack occurred outside the office, resulting in the deaths of five people, including one office employee and two of the attackers.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the latest explosion.
