"Wa" police under the United Wa State Party (UWSP) arrested 1,207 Chinese nationals who committed communication fraud in the "Wa" region and handed them over to the Chinese police on September 6 and 7, according to the "Wa" group's WSTV news agency.

According to the press release of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, the Myanmar police have arrested the perpetrators of such communication fraud and transferred them to the Chinese police.

In June 2023, six were arrested and transferred to the Chinese police. There were 24 in August, according to the Chinese Embassy.

The action of arresting the perpetrators of such communication fraud shows China's strong position to fight gambling fraud together with Myanmar and other relevant parties, and all relevant parties should cooperate more closely to fight gambling fraud in the region. The Chinese Embassy has announced that it will use more proactive and more professional actions.

Both sides of China-Myanmar are jointly building the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor project. At the same time, the two sides should do more to fight cross-border crimes such as communication fraud and create a clean environment for the joint construction of the Belt and Road, said Dr. Zheng Zhihong, Ambassador of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar at a China-Myanmar media meeting held in Yangon on August 23.

Similarly, on August 22, the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Chen Hai, the Thai ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Mongkol Visitstump and Lao Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Heuangseng Khamdalavong held a tripartite meeting and discussed and negotiated the joint fight against gambling and fraud crimes in the region.

In recent months, police force from China, Thailand, Myanmar and Laos held a meeting in Chiang Mai, Thailand to investigate regional communications online fraud and online gambling crimes, and they agreed to work together to fight crimes such as human trafficking, kidnapping and illegal arrests. Heads of the embassies of China, Thailand and Laos in Myanmar discussed that the embassies of the three countries of Laos will increase coordination and support the proper implementation of relevant agreements between Myanmar and the relevant departments of the three countries.
