Heavy rainfall and rising water levels in the Duthawadi River have caused flooding in several villages in Sintgaing Township, Kyaukse District, Mandalay Region, forcing more than 1,200 people to relocate to safer areas, according to reports.

Heavy rain began falling in Sintgaing Township on the evening of August 10, causing the Duthawadi River to rise and floodwaters to enter homes in the Eainbyu and Paleik village tracts along the riverbank.

The Township Administration and Management Committee and its members, police and fire brigade personnel, local wards and social organizations, and village administrative teams carried out rescue and relocation operations.

A total of 590 people from 138 households in Eainbyu Village Tract, including Eainbyu, Kyun-U and Makkhara villages, were evacuated to safer locations, along with 315 livestock.

In Paleik Village Tract, 1,220 people from 319 households in Inlya (East), Inlya (West), Sittara, Tantaunglay, Thayarkyun and Butha villages were also assisted in relocating to flood-free areas, together with 135 livestock.
