Former Myanmar national football team player and Silver Age footballer U Win Aung passed away at 4:30 p.m. on September 13 at Aryu International Hospital in Tamwe Township, Yangon, according to reports.

U Win Aung was 60 years old at the time of his death. He had been receiving treatment at Aryu International Hospital since early September for an illness involving fluid in his lungs.

U Win Aung was first selected for the Myanmar national team in 1989 and went on to represent the national side in numerous international matches.

He was selected for Myanmar's national team at the 17th Southeast Asian Games in 1993, where he helped the team win a silver medal. He also represented Myanmar at the 1994 Asian Games held in Hiroshima, Japan. In Myanmar's 2-2 draw against Qatar at the tournament, he scored one of the goals with a header.

Throughout his career with the Myanmar national team, U Win Aung competed in the Southeast Asian Games, Tiger Cup tournaments, Asian Games and numerous other international competitions. At club level, he played for domestic teams including the Construction and Finance and Revenue teams, and also played for clubs in Singapore and Thailand.

U Win Aung was a dedicated centre-forward who played primarily as a striker. His outstanding ability to score headed goals made him one of the most beloved players among Myanmar football fans.
