Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing said that it is necessary to prevent illegal export of rice through border areas at the meeting 7/2022 of the Union government in Nay Pyi Taw on October 7.
Myanmar is an agriculture country where rice is mainly cultivated and various kinds of beans and pulses are also cultivated. Rice is the major produce of our country and so it is also a prestige for food security of our country. If we can export a large volume of rice to international countries, it will have a chance to join the role of taking responsibility for food security, he said.
Myanmar has more than 17 million acres of monsoon and summer paddy cultivation and there are 55 million of populations. If we can implement increase in rice production, more rice can be exported than the present amount. It is necessary to prevent illegal export of rice through border areas. It is necessary to consider the improvement of Yangon, Pathein, Sittwe, and Mawlamyine ports which operate the rice export overseas.
Monsoon and summer paddy, oil crops and beans should be cultivated in double and mix-cropping patterns to increase the income of the State. By doing so, production of crops will increase and it will make a good income for the country. As a result, country’s economy will develop, he said. River water pumping projects are permitted for agriculture and permission will be made if private sector desires to implement these projects, he added.
