A retired schoolteacher was shot dead near the corner of Thu Nanda Street and Thu Nanda Lane (5) in Ward (F), North Oakkalapa Township, Yangon, at about 7am on December 20, according to local sources.  

The woman was shot about nine times by an unidentified gunman on a motorbike as she rode a trishaw in the morning, initial reports said.

“We learnt that a woman was shot and killed this morning on Thu Nanda Street. She was said to be a retired teacher,” said a resident in North Oakkalapa Township.  

She reportedly died on the way to hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds to her chests on both left and right sides, stomach and back.  

At about 8pm on December 19 also, an explosion occurred at the corner of Min Ye Kyaw Swar Road and Min Ye Kyaw Swar Lane (2) in Ward No.156, East Dagon Township. Near the scene are a household tool shop and the township police station.
