UEC says over 77,000 disabled people to vote in 2020 general election

More than 77,000 disabled people will have the right to vote in 2020 general election and it is more than those who had the right to vote in 2015 general election, said Myint Naing, member of Union Election Commission (UEC) in a press conference held at the office of the UEC in Nay Pyi Taw on March 5.

The numbers of disabled voters in all states and regions are as per following: over 1,500 in Kachin State, over 500 in Kayah State, over 1,000 in Kayin State, over 2,500 in Chin State, over 3,000 each in Mon, Rakhine and Shan states, over 9,000 in Sagaing Region, over 2,000 in Taninthayi Region, over 10,000 in Bago Region, over 5,000 in Magway Region, over 6,000 in Mandalay Region, over 16,000 in Yangon Region, over 7,000 in Ayeyawady Region and over 1,000 in Nay Pyi Taw.

At the present, the UEC is implementing for all disabled people to have the right to vote and urged them to give vote in 2020 general election, he said.

“We cannot make a list of disabled people in small villages. We told physically handicapped associations to organize the disabled people as much as they can. They have time to carry out to organize them,” he said.

Around 100 political parties will be competing in the 2020 general election and there are 78 parties which are organizing election campaigns around the country, according to the UEC.

There are over 37 million eligible voters across the country in 2020 general election and the numbers of eligible voters in all states and regions are as per following: over 10 million in Kachin State, over 200,000 in Kayah State, over one million in Kayin State, over 300,000 in Chin State, over four million in Sagaing Region, over 900,000 in Taninthayi Region, over three million in Bago Region, over four million in Mandalay Region, over three million in Magway Region, over one million in Mon State, over one million in Rakhine State, over five million in Yangon Region, over three million in Shan State, over four million in Ayeyawady Region and over 800,000 in Nay Pyi Taw, according to the commission.
