A tornado swept through Thanbyuzayat Township in Mon State on the evening of July 10, damaging homes, religious buildings, a school library, power and telecommunications poles, and uprooting large trees, according to local residents.

The twister first struck the Aung Zeya Extension Ward at around 6 p.m. before moving into Aung Kutho Ward. Fallen trees blocked the Thanbyuzayat–Ye highway, while strong winds tore off roofs, snapped trees, and brought down utility poles.

Among the damaged sites was the Kyaik Ramanya Zina Pagoda compound, where roofing sheets and parts of a large building were blown away. The roof of the library at Aung Zeya Basic Education Middle School was also damaged.

Residents said no casualties had been reported as of the morning of July 11. Soldiers, police, firefighters, rescue volunteers, and local residents worked together to clear fallen trees and reopen the highway. Many homeowners have begun repairing damaged roofs, although roofing sheets are in short supply.

The latest tornado follows similar storms that hit Paung Township on July 5 and Mawlamyine on July 6, causing widespread damage to homes and religious buildings.
