President U Min Aung Hlaing attended the opening ceremony of the upgraded Anisakan Airport in Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay Region, on the morning of July 11.
The airport has been upgraded to improve access for tourists, enhance transportation services and support the socio-economic development of local communities.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Dr. Khaing Khaing Soe, the Anisakan Airport project was implemented to accelerate tourism, strengthen the local economy and promote regional development in Pyin Oo Lwin.
She said the airport's opening is one of the key achievements under the government's 100-day plan and will serve as an important piece of infrastructure in advancing Pyin Oo Lwin's development as a tourism, cherry, flower, health, education, IT and coffee city.
The new airport is also expected to strengthen tourism links between Pyin Oo Lwin and the Shan Yoma region, promote domestic tourism, facilitate the transportation of local fruits, flowers and agricultural products to other parts of the country, and contribute to regional economic growth.
The upgraded Anisakan Airport has the capacity to serve up to 1,000 passengers per day and features passenger lounges, service facilities and a runway built to the required standards.
Dr. Khaing Khaing Soe said the airport will play a key role in boosting regional tourism, improving connectivity, easing the transport of local products and supporting the area's long-term economic development.
