A total of 1,725 car accidents happened in Yangon Region from January to November this year killing 547 and injuring 2,058 according to No (2) Traffic Police Force.
Of the dead, 457 were males and 95 females while 1,473 males and 585 females were injured.
There were 203 car accidents with 62 deaths in January, 204 accidents with 73 deaths in February, 180 accidents with 52 deaths in March, 119 accidents with 37 deaths in April, 153 accidents with 50 deaths in May, 186 accidents with 47 deaths in June, 183 accidents with 49 deaths in July, 153 accidents with 47 deaths in August, 97 accidents with 35 deaths in September, 102 accidents with 44 deaths in October and 145 accidents with 51 deaths in November.
In the 110 months, the accident that occurred on June 2 was the most tragic. It happened when a YBS bus No.40 heading from Kamayut Township to Bayintnaung collided with a taxi running from Thiri Mingalar Market to Hsinmalaik on Bayintnaung Road at about 6.30 am on June 2.
In the accident, the driver, a man and a woman on board the taxi were killed on the spot.
Over the past three years, 2019 saw most deaths caused by car accidents in Yangon Region. There were 2,324 car accidents with 671 deaths and 2,667 injured people in that year.
