Farmers growing summer rice are being sold fertilizer at about 100,000 kyats per bag under a government program.

The Ministries of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and Cooperative and Rural Development are jointly distributing quality fertilizer at affordable prices to ensure easy access for farmers. On April 19, urea fertilizer was directly delivered and sold in villages in Nay Pyi Taw’s Lewe Township at around 100,500 kyats per bag.

Officials urged farmers to use inputs efficiently and follow proper application methods to boost yields, ensure domestic rice sufficiency, and increase exports. The government said the support comes despite global supply challenges and warned against misuse.

Fertilizer sales are currently underway in six villages, covering about 30% of the required supply in the first phase. The remaining demand will be met in two additional phases to ensure full coverage in time for cultivation.
