A woman died in a fire that broke out in the Shwepyitha Township of Yangon Region, according to Shwe Metta Social Assistance Foundation, which was involved in the rescue operation.

The fire occurred around 5 AM on January 7, on Thiri Mingalar Street in the 5th Ward of Shwepyitha Township, Yangon Region.

“We found the body of a woman at the scene of the fire. Now, those who were trapped in the fire are being rescued. There are over 100 people in total,” said Ma Shwe Le, a spokesperson for Shwe Metta Foundation.

The deceased woman was reported to be 35 years old. In addition to her, a small dog was also found dead at the scene of the fire, having succumbed to the injuries from the blaze.

“We also found the body of the woman and a small dog that couldn’t escape and died from the burn injuries,” Ma Shwe Le of the Shwe Metta Social Assistance Foundation said.

The fire lasted nearly an hour and was brought under control at Level 1. The fire was extinguished at 6:19 AM, according to a statement from the Myanmar Fire Brigade.
