Authorities say value of destroyed drugs more than doubled compared to last year.
Myanmar authorities destroyed seized narcotics and precursor chemicals worth more than Ks2.2 trillion in coordinated operations across the country on June 26, marking more than double the value of drugs destroyed compared to the previous year.
According to official figures, narcotics and related chemicals destroyed nationwide were valued at more than Ks1.163 trillion in 2024, over Ks1.072 trillion in 2025, and more than Ks2.209 trillion in 2026.
The destruction ceremonies were held simultaneously in Yangon, Mandalay, and Taunggyi.
Drugs worth approximately Ks1.176 trillion were destroyed in Yangon, while narcotics valued at more than Ks416 billion were incinerated in Mandalay. In Taunggyi, authorities destroyed drugs worth approximately Ks587.126 billion.
Officials also said that Operation 42, a nationwide anti-drug campaign, has been underway since January 1, 2026, and will continue until December 31, 2026, with intensified efforts to combat drug production and trafficking across the country.
