A woman who stored and distributed fuel without having a license near the Lamudan Market in Shwemyaingthiri Ward, Mawlamyine, Mon Sate, was arrested on the night of December 10.

The arrest of the 38-year-old woman came after relevant officials went to conduct checks when she posted her contact phone number on social media for purchase of fuel.

A source close to security forces said that the woman was arrested after finding out that the fuel was stored and distributed at a price that exceeded the market price.

“When the officials found out the information about her phone contact number for fuel purchase on Facebook, they arrested her for storing fuel without legal permission,” the source said.

She has reportedly been charged under Section 37 of the Oil and Petroleum Products Act at Sitkekon Police Station.

Mon State had experienced fuel shortage since early December. Although fuel supplies arrived, limited sales have led to long queues at the local gas stations.

Under such circumstances, a black market for fuel resale has surfaced with a price of between 4,000 kyats and 7,000 kyats per liter of petrol.
