Various small weapons including RPGs seized in Southern Shan State

Some ammunition including 504 various small weapons and 10 RPGs were seized from the vehicles driven by armed men wearing the uniforms of Pa-O National Liberation Organization(PNLO) in Sanphu village of Hopone Township, southern Shan State on January 20, says the State Administration Council (SAC). 

According to a tip-off, there had been a plan to carry the illegal weapons and ammunition in Hopone Township, the security forces conducted checks and found a convoy of vehicles driven by men wearing the PNLO’s uniforms. Meanwhile, a person wearing PNLO uniform opened fire and some security forces were injured during the shooting, according to the SAC report.

With the aim to prolong the peace, the security forces made the negotiations with the PNLO which is one of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement(NCA) signatories. So, the shooting stopped. While making the negotiation, PNLO uniformed men run away after torching their vehicles yesterday morning.

The SAC report also said that the ammunition on the vehicles exploded and the fire spread to homes in Sanphu village, destroying 27 homes.

The security members together with firefighters from Hopone and Taunggyi townships put out the flames, according to the SAC.

When the security forces inspected the damaged vehicles, they found 504 various small arms that were damaged by fire on two Canter vehicles, 10 RPGs, 6 of 107 mm homemade rockets and some ammunition, according to SAC.
