Union Ministers hold crucial talks with Egyptian Ambassador on boosting bilateral economic ties

Union Ministers and the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt met and discussed issues of increasing bilateral economic cooperation, including oil and natural gas exploration and mining and agriculture, sources said.

Dr Kan Zaw, Union Minister for Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations and the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Myanmar, H.E. Mrs. Aya Saad Mohamed Abdelkarim, met at the ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on the afternoon of January 18.

During the meeting, issues related to increasing economic cooperation between Myanmar and Egypt were discussed.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister and senior officials of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations.

Similarly, Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin received the delegation led by H.E. Mrs Aya Saad Mohamed Abdelkarim, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Myanmar, at the ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on the afternoon of January 18.

During the meeting, both sides discussed issues related on upgrading and building new oil refineries and fertilizer factories in Myanmar, conditions for investment cooperation in inland and offshore oil and natural gas exploration and production, ability to import liquefied natural gas (LNG), opportunities for close cooperation in the energy sector between Myanmar and Egypt in the future, issues that are being encouraged and promoted to change the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles instead of fossil fuel vehicles in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and reduce fuel consumption in Egypt.

The meeting was attended by the Director Generals, Managing Directors and officials from the Ministry of Energy.

Also, agriculture, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung and the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Myanmar, H.E. Mrs Aya Saad Mohamed Abdelkarim, met at the ministry on the afternoon of January 18.

In this meeting, they discussed about participants from Myanmar sent to attend the cotton crop production technology training course held at the Egyptian International Center for Agriculture (EICA), coordination for the signing of a new memorandum of understanding on agricultural sector cooperation between the two countries, exchanging of cotton species, technical cooperation related to cotton and potato production and human resource development.
