The UK government has imposed sanctions on two companies, including Asia Sun, which imports jet fuel for Myanmar Air Force, announced the UK Embassy in Myanmar on January 31.

A statement from the UK Embassy in Myanmar stated that the sanctions have been targeted for companies that are helping Myanmar Air Force to carry out airstrikes and repression against civilians.

“Our sanctions are meticulously targeted to deliver maximum impact, reducing the military’s access to finance, fuel, arms and equipment,” said James Cleverly, UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.

The sanctions were imposed on Asia Sun Company Limited and Cargo Link Company Limited, both of which are part of the Asia Sun Group, the UK Embassy said in a statement.

These companies are the companies that control the jet fuel import sector of Myanmar and are among the companies that buy and import jet fuel for the Myanmar Air Force, according to a statement from the UK Embassy.
