A total of 282 basic education schools have been opened in Tedim, Tonzang, and Falam townships in Chin State, with more than 20,000 students currently attending classes, according to reports.
In Falam Township alone, 113 basic education schools are operating, providing education to 3,440 students with the support of 284 teachers. Across Tedim, Tonzang, and Falam, a total of 282 schools have been opened, where 1,247 teachers are educating 20,314 students.
On July 13, Deputy Minister for Construction U Myo Myint, together with members of the Chin State Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Committee, local community leaders, and departmental officials, inspected ongoing activities at the Basic Education High School, post-primary schools, and the School Health Department in Falam.
The Deputy Minister and his delegation, accompanied by local elders, visited No. 3 Basic Education Post-Primary School in Falam. During a meeting with the headmaster and teachers, it was reported that eight teachers, including the headmaster, were carrying out teaching duties for 105 students. School officials also briefed the delegation on the availability of teaching aids and the current teaching situation. In response, the Deputy Minister coordinated with relevant authorities to address the reported needs. The delegation also observed school health services conducted by the Public Health Department and School Health Department, including eye examinations, dental check-ups, and personal health screenings for 92 students, as well as the peaceful learning environment enjoyed by the students.
The delegation later visited No. 1 Basic Education Post-Primary School in Falam, where they met with local elders, the headmaster, and teachers. School officials reported that eight teachers, including the headmaster, were providing education to 54 students. They also requested that the school be upgraded from a post-primary school to a middle school to accommodate students from nearby wards and village tracts.
In response, the Deputy Minister instructed relevant officials to process the request in accordance with established procedures if the school meets the required criteria. He also observed students attending classes in a peaceful learning environment.
The Deputy Minister and his delegation then visited No. 1 Basic Education High School in Falam. During the visit, he urged responsible officials to maintain the cleanliness and attractiveness of the school compound and to work collectively to preserve the school’s main building, which had been renovated as part of its centennial commemoration, ensuring its long-term sustainability and durability.
