Twenty-six Myanmar fishermen who had been detained in Port Blair, India, for illegally entering Indian territorial waters returned safely to Yangon by air on the night of July 24, according to official reports.

The repatriation was facilitated through close coordination between the Myanmar Embassy in New Delhi, the Consulate-General of Myanmar in Kolkata, and the relevant Indian authorities. Myanmar officials arranged for the issuance of Certificates of Identity to verify the fishermen’s nationality, coordinated their flights, and handled other necessary administrative procedures to ensure their safe return.

Upon their arrival at Yangon International Airport, officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Immigration and Population welcomed the returnees and provided the necessary assistance.

The government said it continues to prioritize the welfare of Myanmar nationals living abroad. Through its embassies and consulates, it provides consular assistance, including support for citizens facing difficulties overseas and arrangements for their safe return to Myanmar when necessary.
