Two men were seriously injured after stepping on a landmine near Pyin Thar Village in Bilin Township, according to local residents.

The incident occurred at around 9:00 a.m. on March 15, when the two men were clearing bushes to build a hut near the village. A local resident said the explosion happened after they accidentally stepped on a buried landmine.

“They were injured in the blast — one is a 20-year-old and the other is a 30-year-old man. We understand they both work at a gold mine,” the resident said.

The injured men were transported by locals to Bilin Township People’s Hospital for treatment.

According to regional reports, at least three landmine explosions have occurred in Mon State so far this year, injuring no fewer than four men.
