Twelve foreign nationals — ten from the Philippines and two from Ghana — have been detained in the Myawady-Maethawtalay area, commonly known as KK Park, in Kayin State, Myanmar. They were found to have entered the country illegally and were allegedly involved in online gambling, scams, and other cyber-related crimes.
The operation was led by Deputy Director U Myint Bhone of the Kayin State Immigration and Population Department. Authorities are currently collecting personal information and processing documentation to facilitate the deportation of the detained individuals to their respective countries.
From 30 January to 3 June 2025, Myanmar apprehended a total of 9,114 illegal foreign entrants. Of these, 8,699 were deported via Thailand, while 415 are awaiting repatriation. Myanmar’s government has intensified its crackdown on online scam operations and human trafficking networks. These efforts target both foreign perpetrators and local collaborators, while also prioritizing the swift and safe return of trafficking victims to their home countries.
