A fire broke out at an oil warehouse in Shan Chaung Ward, Myeik, leaving two people dead, according to reports.
The incident occurred at around 8 a.m. on May 17 in Shan Chaung Ward, Kalwin Village Tract, Myeik Township, Tanintharyi Region.
Firefighters from the Myeik District Fire Services Department, led by District Fire Chief U Zaw Win, responded to the blaze with three fire engines and three water tankers. Volunteers and local residents also joined the firefighting efforts. The fire was brought under control by 8:35 a.m., and clearance operations continued to prevent the flames from spreading further, the Fire Services Department said.
“A loud explosion was heard and nearby houses shook. The fire started at U Hon Nu’s oil shop. We saw thick smoke rising into the sky. Luckily, it was raining at the time of the fire,” a local resident said.
Two men were killed in the fire, while authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze and the extent of the damage.
