The number of COVID cases and deaths dropped slightly in Mandalay

The numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths have slightly decreased in Mandalay but there are still positive patients and death remains according to social organizations in Mandalay.

Mandalay is under the Stay at Home order as the number of positive cases and deaths increased in July. In early August, the numbers of cases and deaths have dropped slightly but there are daily reports of deaths by COVID-19 till now according to some social organizations.

“Our organization carried fewer bodies yesterday. We also donate oxygen to COVID-19 patients and these days, there are surplus of oxygen at our place.   The number of deaths, compared with previous month, also declined. But, infection rate continues and death still remains,” said a member of one of the social organizations in Mandalay.

In COVID-19 third wave, Mandalay faced increased in infection rate and deaths, shortage of oxygen and medicine, sky rocketing of medicine and medical supplies, high price of oxygen cylinders and liquid oxygen. Besides, most infected people didn’t have chances to admit to hospitals.  Majority of the patients undergo treatment at their homes. Due to insufficient medicine, many were died with COVID-19. 

At present, philanthropic organizations, monasteries, some Fire Departments, and some religious organizations donated oxygen free of charge. Some oxygen plants are being built with the contributions of well-wishers. In Mandalay medicine market, some medicines re-entered market these days and the prices are also declining according to Mandalay medicine market.

The numbers of deaths due to COVID-19 in Mandalay including those expired at hospitals and at homes may be above thousands according to some working at the philanthropic organizations in Mandalay.
