Tax revenues from telecom sector hit Ks 95.438 bln

In 2018-2019 fiscal year, the total commercial tax revenues from mobile operators hit Ks 95.438 billion, according to the Joint Public Account Committee’s report. 

The government collects a five per cent commercial tax on mobile phones.

In 2018-19 FY, the government earned Ks 23.147 billion from Telenor Myanmar Company, Ks 9.501 billion from Ooredoo Myanmar Company Ltd, Ks 0.408 billion from Myanmar Economic Corporation (MEC), Ks 10.027 billion from Myanmar National Tele and Communications Co (MyTel) and Ks 52.355 billion from Myanmar Post and Telecommunications. 

In six-month budget of 2018, the government earned a total commercial tax revenue of Ks 44.234 billion— Ks 23.825 billion from the MPT, Ks 14.031 billion from Telenor Myanmar Company, Ks Ks 6.033 billion from Ooredoo Myanmar Company Ltd and Ks 0.345 billion from the MEC. 

In 2017-18 FY, the total commercial tax revenues from the mobile operators hit Ks 98.604 billion—Ks 53.605 billion from the MPT, Ks 28.202 billion from Telenor Myanmar Company, Ks 15.679 billion from Ooredoo Myanmar and Ks 1.118 billion from the MEC. 

Thanks to the collection of stamp taxes on mobile handsets and related accessories since June of 2018-19 FY, the government earned a commercial tax of Ks 13.158 billion, according to the Joint Public Account Committee.

The government earned Ks 0.477 billion in 2017-2018 FY and Ks 0.140 billion in the interim budget of 2018.
