The Chairman and Vice Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) held separate meetings with the Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar, during which they discussed cooperation on border stability to help restore bilateral trade and the flow of goods.
According to reports, Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, received Mr. Mongkol Visiststump, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Myanmar, who is completing his term of duty and preparing to depart, on the afternoon of January 26 at the guest hall of the National Defense and Security Council Office in Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed Myanmar–Thailand diplomatic relations and friendship; Thailand’s participation in observing Myanmar’s multi-party democratic general election alongside international election observers; observations that voters cast their ballots freely according to their own will without coercion; and the successful conduct of the election as a free, fair, and clean process. They also exchanged views on the need for cooperation between the two governments and armed forces to ensure stability and peace in border areas in order to restore bilateral trade and the flow of goods; Myanmar’s intensified efforts to combat online scams, online gambling, and narcotics as a national duty; and ongoing cooperation on environmental conservation in border regions.
The meeting was attended by the Commission Secretary, General Yar Pyae, and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ko Ko Kyaw, together with responsible officials from the Thai Embassy in Myanmar accompanying the Thai Ambassador.
Similarly, Vice Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Deputy Senior General Soe Win, also received Mr. Mongkol Visiststump on the afternoon of January 26 at the diplomatic guest hall of the National Defense and Security Council Office.
During that meeting, discussions focused on friendly relations and cooperation between the governments and armed forces of Myanmar and Thailand; joint efforts to combat online scams, online gambling, narcotics, and illegal trade along the border as a national responsibility; cooperation between the two governments and armed forces to ensure border stability and peace and to reopen border trade routes as soon as possible to restore trade and commodity flows; and the successful completion of the multi-party democratic general election.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ko Ko Kyaw and Director General U Thet Win, along with the Thai Ambassador, the Deputy Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, and other embassy officials.
