The Information Team of State Administration Council (SAC) announced yesterday the news that the donated US dollars from the Shwedagon Pagoda and the Botahtaung Pagoda in Yangon City, which are deposited in banks, were withdrawn at a rate of 2,100 kyats per dollar was false.

The fake news already spread on social media that a source close to the pagoda boards of trustees and thier finance committees said the cash donations and entrance fees in dollars (deposited in banks) received from these two pagodas had been seized and exchanged into Myanmar Kyats at a rate of Ks2,100 per dollar, according to the SAC announcement.

Regarding the news, an official from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture claimed that the malicious media already spread false information about the pagodas's cash donations. The illegal media are releasing fake news with the intention of inciting the country's stability and causing misunderstanding among the public.
