More than 1,000 people from about 290 homes in Einpyat Village-tract of Hinthada Township, Ayeyawady Region, have been displaced by natural disasters such as river bank erosion and floods.

A total of 237 people from 62 houses have been evacuated due to the river bank erosion, while 810 people from 228 houses have also been evacuated after their area had been flooded, local authorities have confirmed.   

The houses displaced by the natural disasters are located in four villages of Einpyat Village-tract.

“Due to the bank erosion, 62 houses have been moved. Moreover, the people from 228 houses have been evacuated due to flooding. So, the number of houses is 290. All of them are from Phaungseik, Ngapyawtaw, Tangok and Ohntaw villages in Einpyat Village-tract. All those people are now living in safer places,” said a village administrative body member.

Government officials are reportedly making inspection visits to the scenes.
