A protest occurred in front of Thakin Mya Park in Ahlone Township, Yangon, on January 28 with protestors supporting the military and denouncing unfair election results.

The protest was staged after seeking permission from authorities and there were 11 protestors who claimed that they did not belong to any political party.

“We are here in protest against the irregularities in the 2020 general election. We are not satisfied with the UEC (Union Election Commission). There were also similar protests in other regions and states. After seeking permission for peaceful assembly from the township administrator, we staged our protest. We submitted the letter saying there would be 29 protestors. We are not insulting anyone. We are here to say what we want and what we have to see. We are not members of any political party,” said protest leader Soe Myint.

In the protestor, they were standing in front of the park holding vinyl placards reading “show support to the military; down with the election result as it does not reflect public desire; down with the unfair election result; ensuring the rule of law in union parliament; down with any act harming democracy; for judiciary sector to expose the truth; and for media to find the truth.”
