Pazundaung sub-commission denied distribution of leaflets: NLD candidate

The township election commission refused permission to the candidates of NLD party from Pazundaung township to distribute leaflets while under the Stay at Home measures said by U Aung Zin, NLD candidate for that constituency.     

U Aung Zin, candidate for Pazundaung township Pyithu Hluttaw constituency queried whether candidates for election have no opportunity to introduce themselves. He further asked whether pamphlets containing their biography to be distributed. He asked how the public will know the educational qualifications of the candidate, how will the people make their choice.     

NLD party member, U Kyaw Kyaw Oo, candidate for the Regional Hluttaw Constituency (1), applied on 23rd Oct.to the Pazundaung township election  commission to distribute leaflets containing the personal resume of three persons representing NDF to seek votes.     

Regarding the application for permit to campaign in the wards of Pazundaung township from 25 Oct. to 6 Nov., the township branch commission responded on 24 Oct. that in townships under Stay at Home measure campaigning by going around and campaigning in and outside buildings, and going from house to house are forbidden, the request by NDF party candidate will not at all be granted.    

U Aung Zin said that "because of this situation most of their members are asking for elections to be postponed, and to hold elections when COVID period is over. This request is not granted. The rights of candidates are also denied. If their rights are not granted then it should be the same for everyone. He further said that in Thingangyun township more than 100 trishaws with NLD are going about with NLD flags. No one says anything about that. This is  the right of the wellwishers . This cannot be disregarded. It amounts to misusing power."     

As per instructions issued by the ministry of health and sports on 7 Sept.regarding campaigning forbidding  any campaigning going about, in and outside buildings or going from house to house in Regions, States, townships and wards that are under the measure of Stay at Home.     

Except for the Cocos Island in Yangon Region , 44 townships are under Stay at Home measure  but on 18 Oct. wellwishers of  NLD party went sbout in about 200 slow-moving vehicles from Pazundaung township to Botahtaung township and giong to Kyauktadar township chanting party victory songs.

On 24 Oct. more than 100 slow-moving vehicles and  NLD party welleishers went about from Thingangyun to Tharketa township.
