Online shopping businesses need to register from Jan 1

Ministry of Commerce issued that online shopping businesses in Myanmar are required to register from January 1, 2024 and the maximum registration fee is Ks70,000.

Department of Trade (DOT) under the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) has been implementing online sale business registration order and exempted registration fees for those registered during October 2, 2023 to December 31.

It has announced that two years registration certificate will be given to those online sales which will commence on January 1, 2024 and fees will be collected.

The cost of registration fees are as follows. Registration fee for a Company or a business organization is Ks70,000, a company or a business organization which can show some kind of SME documents is Ks50,000 and for each individual, the fee is Ks30,000, according to Department of Trade.

Under the Notification No. 51/2023, the MOC set out the criteria and requirements for the registration of online retail businesses by entities, business institutions, and individuals, as well as the duties and liabilities of sellers and consumers. The responsibilities of the one who has online registration certificate are, they have to resolve issues with goods or services sold, to provide receipts for transactions, to give accurate information and warranties about the goods or services, to ensure quality meets its value, to sell only approved goods or services, to avoid disruptive or politically motivated activities, to conduct sales transparently, to comply with regulations for food, medicine, etc., and to follow periodically issued terms and regulations by MOC and DOT, according to assistant director U Htet Win Aung from MOC.
