Private banks offer exclusive foreign currency sales for people going abroad

KBZ, AYA and UAB Bank branches in Yangon, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw and Taunggyi are offering small amounts of foreign currency sales through a special program for those who are going to go abroad, announced the Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM).

In order to enable Myanmar citizens to take small amounts of foreign currency with them when going abroad, in order to make it easy to buy in the market and to control illegal money changers' gambling, those who will work abroad, those who are going for medical treatment and those who are going to study was allowed to buy foreign currency of US$300 to 500 (equivalent foreign currency cash) for each at the Yangon International Airport or the money changer counters of AD licensed banks starting from May 31, 2023 and among those who leave abroad, those who leave for pilgrimage and those who leave to attend meetings at the invitation of foreign governments and associations was allowed to buy foreign currency of US$300 to 500 (equivalent foreign currency cash) for each starting from August 18, 2023.

At the money changer counters of AD licensed banks, the 7 types of currencies approved by the CBM: US Dollar, Euro, Singapore Dollar, Thai Baht, Malaysian Ringgit, Chinese Yuan and Japanese Yen, are regularly traded.

Bank counters that can be purchased under the small foreign currency cash sale program are CB Bank PCL, Myanmar Oriental Bank Ltd., KBZ Bank Ltd., Innwa Bank Ltd., Asian Green Development Bank Ltd., AYA Bank PCL, UAB Bank Ltd., Myanma Apex Bank Ltd., Myanmar Citizen Bank Ltd., Global Treasure Bank Ltd., Yoma Bank Ltd., and Ayeyawady Farmers Development Bank Ltd. and they have announced details on the banks' websites and Facebook pages.

The CBM is cooperating with KBZ, AYA and UAB banks branches in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Taunggyi to implement a special program in order to efficiently provide cash flow for the small expenses for those who will work abroad, those who will be going for medical treatment, those who win scholarships, those who leave for pilgrimage and those who leave to attend meetings at the invitation of foreign governments and associations.

The branches of KBZ bank are 9-mile branch, U Wisara Road (2) branch, Yangon Airport (arrival) branch in Yangon, IBD branch, 22 Bank branch, 4 Bank branch in Mandalay, No.5 Bank branch in Nay Pyi Taw and No.1 Bank branch in Taunggyi.

The branches of AYA Bank PCL are in Yangon Airport, Parami, Ahlon, Kyauktada, Mayagone in Yangon, 30th Street Branch and 22 Branch in Mandalay, and Nay Pyi Taw.

The branches of UAB Bank are Sanchaung, Yangon Airport, Shwegondai, Theinphyu in Yangon, 84th Street, Saidan, Diamond branches in Mandalay, and Nay Pyi Taw branch, according to the statement.
