Ongoing armed conflicts make to increase the number of IDPs in northwestern and southeastern Myanmar, requiring humanitarian assistance: OCHA Myanmar

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA Myanmar) has announced that the numbers of internally displaced persons (IDPs) are now increasing due to the ongoing armed conflicts took place in Myanmar’s southeast and northwest, requiring humanitarian assistance.

As of April 24, 2023, according to the latest figures from the United Nations, there have been more than 1.8 million IDPs in Myanmar, OCHA Myanmar said in a statement. 

The OCHA Myanmar also reported that the number of IDPs in northwest area is over 1 million after February, 2021.

As the clashes including air strike in Pekhone Township, southern Shan State located on border area of Kayah State had intensified from April 24 to 27, a hospital was destroyed so the patients were injured, according to OCHA Myanmar’s report.

The OCHA Myanmar also said that the humanitarian partners are now supporting emergency aids for the victims and IDPs.
