The selection of parliamentary candidates representing the National League for Democracy for the coming general election this year will be finished by June, said Mandalay Region Chief Minister and NLD Vice Chairman (2) Dr Zaw Myint Maung.

He disclosed the information to the media through a video conference after a meeting of NLD’s Central Executive Committee held in Nay Pyi Taw on May 31.

“I informed CEC members that the time has come to choose parliamentary candidates. I said so after looking at the 2015 situation,” said Dr Zaw Myint Maung.

Although the exact date of the 2020 general election is unknown, township NLDs have been informed about their readiness to choose candidates as soon as the Union Election Commission sets the date, he added.

“First, we have to choose five town elders. Township ECs or organizational teams have to choose candidates,” he said.

He said a letter will come out on June 2 to choose town elders. Then, another letter will come out on June 4 regarding the selection of candidates.
