SNLD party is ready to work together with NLD party and cooperation will come into live only when NLD party shares some duties to SNLD party according to joint secretary (1) of SNLD party Sai Kyaw Nyunt.

Representatives from NLD and SNLD parties met at the NLD headquarters in Taunggyi, Shan State on January 15. At the meeting, three central executives from NLD led by Dr.Aung Moe Nyo and from SNLD party, general secretary Sai Leik, joint secretary (1) Sai Kyaw Nyunt and joint secretary (2) Sai Samphot Sai were present. 

“We discussed matters on how to cooperate between two parties, policy and how to govern the union. Mutual discussion took place on how to cooperate in parliament and in the administrative sector.  I think many beneficial and interesting things will take place during this meeting. The NLD party has invited us in 2015 but we were forming our party at the time and we were unable to accept their invitation. This time, we are ready to help them if they share some duties to us. Actual cooperation must be sharing some duties between us. Doing work with might and main, some duties must be shared. When building a party, there are policies and our policies are posted online in detail. We explained to them briefly about our fundamental policy and discussed what we can do together,” said joint secretary (2) Sai Kyaw Nyunt.

He continued in saying that the main thing they discussed is national unity. As everyone knows, meeting with Mon and Kayah was not OK. We didn’t want that to happen in Shan State. NLD and SNLD have been working together for 30 years. I hope this time, we can cooperate in building national unity and peace process. Our SNLD policy is how to cooperate with other parties in the national unity and peace process. What will be the union vision in building a federal union? We discussed standard values upheld by the Shan nationals.

Democracy and building a federal union is two sides of a coin and both must be done consecutively. In a country, there are not only single parties, but also armed ethnic forces, CSOs closely working with the public. He added that they must work for finding a platform where all can work together. If that happens, work can be done more than the previous administration and more achievement will be made.
