New solar projects would be planned on vacant land near the Thapyaywa power plant said U Thaung Han, Union Minister for Electric Power and Energy.

The Union Minister said this while inspecting the power generation of 30-megawatt Thapyaywa solar power plant built by Clean Power Energy Co. Ltd and the distribution of electricity from 230 KV Thapyaywa sub-station near Thapyaywa village, Thazi Township in Mandalay Region on May 15, announced Ministry of Electric Power and Energy.

The Union Minister said our country is rich in solar energy resources and we need to build solar power plants. It is found that the solar tracking system installed at Thapyaywa solar power plant can generate more electricity, so it is necessary to use solar tracking system technology in future solar projects. The project will be implemented in accordance with the project procedures for the implementation of new solar projects to meet the demand for electricity on the vacant land near the Thapyaywa solar power plant as it will be able to generate electricity from the Thapyaywa sub-station.

Thapyaywa solar power plant is located on 133.44 acres of land near Thapyaywa village, Thazi Township in Mandalay Region. It has an installed capacity of 30 MW and a maximum of 455 watts of 83,752 Bifacial Monocry Stalline Silicon Modules with 966 sets of Single Axis Solar Trackers.

Thapyaywa is the second solar power plant to be built in Myanmar, generating more than 200,000 kilowatt hours per day and an average of 66 million kilowatt hours per year. The electricity generated from the solar power plant is distributed to the national grip from 230 KV Thapyaywa sub-station using a four-mile length of 33 KV double layer overhead power line.

The Union Minister said that preparation to distribute power generated from the new solar power plants to be connected to the national grid through Thapyaywa sub-station should be made in advance and to regularly inspect transformers, power plant equipment and power lines to reduce the power outage. He inspected the power distribution system in the switch yard inside the substation and the load balancing condition of the existing power lines and transformers inside the sub-station, according to the announcement.
